Making The Choice Of Acne Products

By Jonathan Mercer

For many acne is a chronic problem; and they are searching for some relief. Acne doesn?t only affect teenagers, and can be embarrassing as well as leaving the skin scarred.

The Over The Counter Acne Products

There are many over the counter acne products available. These are all designed to either stop acne from occurring, or help with the acne that is active. Acne occurs when the Sebaceus gland that produces oil for the skin, gets clogged in hair follicles. A pimple will then result. People with acne have too much of a bacteria called Propionibacterium. This bacteria feeds off of the oil secreted by the Sebaceus gland; and this in turn causes white blood cells to go to try and fight the over production of bacteria. This then makes the skin red and swollen.

There are products that are available that will keep the pores clear and free from the oils that can clog them. The major ingredient in products that perform this function is Benzoyl Peroxide. This is one of the most common ingredients in acne products. The big name acne products will contain this ingredient.

There are some other acne products that contain Salicylic Acid as well as Alpha Hydroxy. These ingredients work by removing the top layer of skin. This will eliminate the acne and put a stop to the process in the same manner as Benzoyl Peroxide. You will find these ingredients in products like eye creams and moisturizers. There are even some sunscreen products that contain these ingredients.

Other products that are used as acne products are tea tree oil and a variety of other essential oils that are wonderful antiseptic products. Lavender oil, rosewood, and bergamon are all natural essential oils that can be very effective acne products. Usually the oils will have to be diluted with water before they can be used on the skin.

You can also check with your doctor for prescription acne products that can be used for your problem skin. There are medications that are taken orally that will work on the bacteria that are causing your acne. There may be other prescription topical medications that will work on your acne. You must make an appointment with your doctor to receive any of these medications. Try the over the counter acne products first, but if there is no improvement it might be necessary to visit the doctor for a prescription product.

The most important part of trying acne products is reading the instructions on the label. You should be sure that you are following the directions precisely to avoid any problems to your skin and also to make sure that they are effective.

There are many people who are afflicted with acne. Everyday there are new acne products introduced into the market. All of these products are designed to help the millions of people who are suffering from acne. - 15343
