There have been so many articles written on how to properly buy a suit, but not many have been written on the tie. However, this does not mean the tie should not be bought and worn properly.
I wrote this article to help men complete their wardrobe by buying a nice tie. After reading this article you will know how to properly buy a tie.
Silk should be the only fabric you ever buy. The polyester tie will always look poorly made and just simply will not do. Although it should be apparent just by the way the tie looks, check each tie to make sure it is made of silk.
The length of the tie should be an appropriate length for your height. Remember that the tip of the tie should end at the top of your belt when tied and the back should never descend further than the front.
In the past thin ties were the rage. This has changed in 2009 and 3.5" seems to be the minimum width while 4" is the maximum.
Resiliency is another matter to consider when purchasing a tie. The tie should have the ability to bounce back into shape after being twisted in your hand for a few seconds. If the tie cannot do this it will not hold up over an entire day.
Lastly, make sure you choose a pattern and color that will match well with the suits and shirts you plan on wearing. Although a tie might look great, it might not look great with the rest of your attire.
