Spray Tans: A Backgrounder

By Maria Smitheram

It has been the advent of safer fake tanning methods that has allowed people to enjoy that tanned look all year round. Technology has come to the rescue to an industry that is having problems, owing to the rise in cases of skin cancer, with some newer techniques that pose less danger.

One of the choices people are now making is to go to a salon that offers spray tanning for an almost instant, safe tan. Originally it was the creams and bronzing lotions that were the most commonly used but spraying the tan on gives a more professional finish.

Just to provide an even more convenient service, manufacturers have introduced spray tanning equipment that can be used in the home too. While there are different ways to provide an alternative tan, the way to achieve it and make it longer lasting lies with spray tanning technology.

Initially you need to exfoliate which will eliminate all the dead skin cells from your body. If you apply a tan agent to dead skin it will just fall off and leave light spots in its place.

Once that stage has been completed, the body needs to be moisturized all over. One of the biggest mistakes people make at this stage when applying a bronzer from a bottle or cream application is to forget to wear gloves, this leaves them with orange palms which is hard to disguise.

Even spray tanning can cause the odd problem if there is an excess and it starts to run so take a towel you no longer want with you to wipe it off.

Try to stay as still as possible while any self tanning agent dries as it might smear and cause uneven patches. These agents are notoriously good at marking clothing once they have been applied so you are advised to be careful how soon you get ready afterwards and what you intend to wear.

Now that you have this information it should be much easier having a fake tan without anyone knowing. - 15343
