Practices to Help You Lose Weight

By Johanna Spolie

The least invasive weight loss techniques, as well as those most often suggested by the physicians, are alterations to eating patterns and augmented physical exercise. Physicians would normally suggest that their overweight patients merge a decrease of processed as well as caloric content of diet with an augment in the physical activity.

Other practices of losing weight contain utilization of supplements in addition to drugs that decrease appetite, block the fat incorporation, or reduce stomach volume. Medicines with the herbs like Fucus vesiculosus are acknowledged. Lastly, surgery may be utilized in more severe cases. Bariatric surgery extraordinarily reduces size of stomach, restricting the eating of food energy.

Crash dieting

A crash diet is where an individual deliberately limits themselves of all the nourishment (except water) for over 12 hours. The preferred outcome is to have body burn fat for the energy with the objective of losing an important amount of weight in some time. Crash dieting is not same as intermittent fasting where the human being occasionally desists from food.

Keep away from eating plenty of sweets, cakes and food. Make your segments little although you can not finish your rare treat. A healthy technique to reduce weight is to burn additional calories by eating in very less quantities and selecting healthier foods. Because fat includes the most amounts of calories with all the food types including carbohydrates and protein, it is balanced to avoid greasy foods as well as eat lots of fruits, vegetables plus wholegrain bread. Calorie eating may be also decreased by replacing the carbonated drinks and fruit cordials with water; substituting whole milk with the semi-skimmed, or semi-skimmed for the skimmed; eating less lunch than normal; to stay away from sugar in coffee as well as tea; reducing eating of sugary, confectionary biscuits plus keep away from crisps in the middle of the meals; in addition cutting down on alcoholic drinks.

Losing weight for plenty of people has never been a trouble-free procedure. It is in fact difficult chiefly if you are not cognizant of the tips for a fast weight loss. The truth is that weight loss is never a simple procedure though it would not be as hard and annoying as you imagine if you have knowledge of the tips. Following are some simple tips for you to abide by and follow for a quick weight loss:

1. To lose weight rapidly, you should set a start date. You could never begin if you never set a date to start with. It is significant that on this date, you are mentally, physically, and emotionally ready for everything for a rapid weight loss.

2: Create a meal chart for yourself daily. This should be put in writing. Always look for the tag since this would notify you if it is healthy or not. Make certain to comprise more vegetables and fruits and eradicate the meat products as well as leave fish plus chicken as the sources of your protein.

3: Exercise for about 30 minutes in a day. You might choose to walk, swim or bike for approximately 30 minutes in a day and try to increase this in every two weeks.

4: One more tip for a rapid weight loss is to drink plenty of water daily.

5: Treat yourself your preferred food for every five pounds you lose. - 15343

Are you drinking enough water?

By Jeff Cline

In grade school we learned what water is made up of. We learned about the hydrogen and oxygen atom make up. But I do not remember learning how important it is to our bodies and how much we need each day to stay healthy.

Maybe we learned, but did we pay attention? Water regulates our body temperature. It delivers nutrients to our organs. Organs such as lungs, brain and muscles can not survive without water. Our blood carries nutrients through out our bodies and our blood is mostly water.

It makes since that when we sweat due to exercise and urination that water is continually needed. We must replace the water that is depleted from our bodies. It is important for these reason to keep your body hydrated

If your body does not get enough water it can become dehydrated. Dehydration can cause some scary symptoms. I high fever, muscle and joint pain, headaches and back aches. You may also see changes in your urine and bowel movements. Dark colored urine and constipation.

So now that we know we need water, how much do we need? A good formula to figure out how much water to drink is to take your body weight divided in half. Whatever that number comes out to be is the number of ounces you need each day.

Most people do not like to drink that much water. You do not have to get it all from tap or bottled water. Some of the water will come from foods we eat, about 20%. We can drink decaff teas and flavored water for more. Sports water and Kool-Aid is fine also.

Our schedules are sometimes so hectic that we can not keep up with how much water we have drank though out our day. You could keep a water bottle at all times, wear 8 rubber bands removing one for each 8 ounces you drink or something of that nature.

So now that you understand that water is very necessary be sure you drink plenty. Do not ignore the signs of dehydration, better yet do not let yourself get dehydrated. Make it a goal to get your daily amount of water and see what a difference it makes. - 15343

Panic Attack Remedies That Work

By Stephen Jablonski

What kind of panic attack remedies really work? Well, tranquilizers can have an immediate effect, but the side effects can be more of a problem then the panic attack itself. Plus, they don't offer a long-term solution. Real remedies take some real work on your part. Here are some options.

Exercise would be a good start. Even the lightest exercise done on a regular basis can have very positive effects on your life. Aerobic exercise in particular increases the heart's capacity for work and just knowing that your heart's in a little better shape can ease your mind about facing your next panic attack.

Eliminate certain substances that are known mood changers. Alcohol and caffeine in particular can have negative effects on your mood. Certain food allergies can have similar effects too. Be alert to how these can trigger a potential anxiety attack and handle them wisely.

Include certain substances that naturally relax you. There are certain natural herbal remedies for panic and anxiety disorders. Lemon balm tea is known for its ability to lower blood pressure and its gentle sedative properties. Passion Flower tea is often used as a sleep aid or sedative. A reputable health food store should carry both and may be able to recommend other remedies.

Take the time to learn a relaxation technique or two. For instance, there are simple yoga breathing exercises you can learn and perform just about anywhere. And they can have an immediate calming effect. Or you can spend more time and take a course on meditation and learn how to use guided imagery as a tool to control your stress.

Begin including more activites in your life that you actually enjoy. Make plans every week, to do something and follow through. As an example, maybe you enjoy eating out, well then set up a regular "date" and go to one of your favorite restaurants every week. The important point here is that you're doing something you enjoy and when you're having fun, you're usually anxiety free.

Talk to someone. This can be as formal as seeking professional counseling, or as informal as just talking to a close friend about what you're feeling. Sharing your thoughts and emotions with someone can be cathartic and make you feel more capable of handling the next anxiety attack.

There are many types of panic attack remedies. In just about all of them, you have to take an active role if you want to be successful. It's your commitment and your action that bring about the long-term solution. So get involved in your own recovery and watch your life change for the better. - 15343

How Much Do You Really Know About the Venereal Wart?

By Rashel Dan

Warts can grow anywhere on your body. The most common type grow on the hands and feet and appear like hard blisters. It is a common skin infection that is caused by a viral infection called the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

Although there are several kinds of warts, there is one type that is most dangerous. The venereal wart, or the genital wart, is found in the most sensitive part of the body. It is the most easily recognized sign of venereal Human Papillomavirus infection. It infects both men and women, often through sexual contact. Read on and know more about this itchy, irritating type of wart, so you can look out for it, and keep yourself aware about the venereal wart.

The venereal wart is a highly contagious (often sexually) transmitted infection caused by some sub-types, or viral strains, of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). It is spread through direct contact during coital, anal sex, or oral sex with an infected partner. You don't need to have a scratch or an open wound to catch the venereal wart; coming in contact with the infected part of your partner can easily do the job.

Venereal warts are often found in and around the penis or vagina. The venereal wart comes in two shapes: It can either be very tiny and shaped like blisters, or grow into very large masses resembling cauliflower. In women, the venereal tumor can occur on the outside and inside of the vagina, and/ or around the anus. In men, but the venereal wart symptoms may be less obvious. When the venereal wart is present in men, it may be seen on the tip of the penis, on the shaft, and on the scrotum, or around the anus.

There is no easy way around getting rid of venereal wart. Here are the types of venereal wart treatment available for people with this type of wart infection:

- Medical Methods and Treatment: The most common medication include Imiquimod, and Podophyllin and Podofilox. Each of these venereal wart medication has specific application instructions so be sure to have yourself checked by your for a correct diagnosis.

- Surgical Methods and treatments: Surgical treatment can involve either of the two types: Freezing the warts to destroy the infected cells, or cauterizing, or burning them off. Cryosurgery freezes the area affected by the venereal wart. Electric, or laser cauterization, and laser treatment, involve cauterizing or burning off the venereal wart and killing the presence of the virus around the affected area.

Doctors' recommendation on the treatment would mostly depend on the size of your wart. A small venereal wart may be removed either through medication, or by freezing (as in cryosurgery, using supercooled solution). Larger masses of venereal wart may be subjected to burning or cauterization (be it electrocautery or chemical cautery), or laser treatment. And then, there are warts that have not responded to other treatment. When this happens, one of the options doctors will be presenting to you is surgical excision, or the physical removal of the wart. In severe cases, the venereal wart may simply be a sign of the more serious condition. Make an appointment to see your doctor when you notice you have venereal wart. Your doctor may be able to determine whether you have venereal wart infection from the Human Papillomavirus infection, or if the warts are symptoms for something else.

The next step in getting rid of warts is to seek your doctor's help in treating the virus that caused it: the HPV. And this may depend on how strong your immune system is. If you are in healthy condition, not suffering from illness or stress, you may be able to fight off the virus even faster. The average healing period is between eight to fourteen months.

Take careful note that anyone can catch venereal wart simply by coming in coital, anal or oral sexual contact. It doesn't have to be penetrative sex either; merely touching the skin of your sexual partner is for a venereal wart infection. Keep your body clean and dry always, especially your sensitive area. A wet and moist environment is very ideal for venereal wart growth, take regular showers and dry off completely. The key to ridding your venereal wart is to undergo treatment and maintain your good health. - 15343

Cookie Diet Recipes

By Brown Davis

In the world of fad diets almost nothing can be more absurd than the cookie diet. The diet relies on eating cookies to control hunger and thus help people lose weight.

Fad diets are short term diets in which people are to lose a lot of weight, and are popular because of their claims of great weight loss. Fad diets generally include some super food, like the cookie in the cookie diet, with miraculous weight loss properties. In this sense they are something like the old traveling medicine shows, in which a slick talking salesman would expound on the virtues of some magical formula created by a Guru of some type.

The cookie diet was created by a physician named Sanford Siegel in 1975 while he was researching a book on the effect of natural foods on hunger. To maintain the cookie diet people would eat six cookies a day, plus a regular dinner. People on the diet ate only 800 calories a day. People went wild over the cookie diet to the extent that 14 clinics opened in Florida. In the middle 1980s over 200 doctors were prescribing Dr. Siegel's cookie diet in their own practices. The diet was quickly expanded to miracle soups and shakes that also contained the amino acids.

There is another version of the cookie diet referred to as the Hollywood cookie diet because it became popular with many Hollywood stars. Stars and starlets made their use of the diet well known, which helped vault it to public attention. Like the original cookie diet this Hollywood version replaced breakfast and lunch with cookies, then allowed a reasonable dinner. These cookies each contain 150 calories and fiber, protein and minerals.

Don't waste time with the cookie diet. If you want to lose weight, or maintain a healthy eating lifestyle, simply lower the amount of calories you eat from everyday foods and add some exercise. Even if the star of your favorite movie claims to love them, avoid so called miracle weight loss foods. - 15343

Colon Cleanse: Very Effective Solution to Constipation

By Sue Thompson

Each year there are 4 million people who report suffering from constipation. There are two types - occasional and chronic constipation. The prolonged condition in which the digestive system is ill functioning puts the chronic constipation sufferer at risk for more serious ailments. A colon health cleanse removes compacted fecal matter in the colon and bowel and this brings relief from the discomfort caused by the obstruction. It also results in a noticeable reduction in weight.

John Wayne, a great American actor who starred in many Western films, was slim as a young man. As he grew older, he gained more weight and when he died, 60 pounds of hard fecal matter was found in his large intestines. It would have been easily removed by a colon cleanse. A weight loss of 5 - 15 pounds or more often accompanies a colon cleanse.

A person suffering from chronic constipation does not move his bowels everyday. Two movements a day is the healthy frequency. There are some adults who eliminate only twice a week and this can lead to serious medical disorders. Symptoms of chronic constipation last for at least a year and these include the following:

Less than 5 bowel movements a week

Stools that are small and dry, like pellets

Straining during defecation

Feeling like the bowels have not been completely emptied after elimination

Inadequate intake of water, lack of exercise, a low fiber diet, and stress are the usual causes of constipation. Stress affects even the contraction of the muscles in our bowels. When the body is in a normal state, the muscles in the upper intestinal tract tighten as the muscles in the bowel relax. When the muscles in the bowel do otherwise, problems occur. Constipation is one of them. However, handling stress induced constipation is beyond the scope of this article.

Anything that causes a change in your normal diet and exercise program can cause constipation. Traveling is an example because it interrupts your regular routine. Inactivity is another cause. This may be due to a medical condition or an injury. Constipation is common among the elderly because age-related health problems often keep them from being active. Many young people these days however, live a sedentary lifestyle. This combined with poor nutrition have increased the number of obese children. Studies show that 50% of children now suffer from obesity.

To prevent constipation you should increase your intake of dietary fiber. This is available as a supplement which can be in pill form or powder. Although these supplements are effective, they are not inexpensive. You can still add fiber to your diet just by eating more fiber-rich foods and avoiding low fiber ones. You can add an apple to your lunch and a salad for supper. You can dig up or create your own low fat meals. There are a lot of recipes available now that are not only healthy but great tasting as well. Eating healthy doesn't have to mean eating bland.

If you have been inactive for a while, exercise can be a struggle at first. Begin with something easy. To stimulate blood circulation, start with some simple stretches and then you can add activities later on, one at a time. A walk around the block, a lap in the pool, or a bike ride can do a lot for your stamina. Your muscle tone will also begin to improve. It will not take long before you start feeling the positive effects.

Our bodies do not respond well to the poor nutrition content of our modern diet. Aside from the lack of nutrients, it is full of artificial ingredients that are slowly poisoning us. These unwanted substances have lined our digestive system with mucoidal plaque causing it to slow down. Because of this condition, it becomes difficult for fecal matter to move through our intestines. More water is absorbed from it than necessary by the body. The stools then become dry and hard and require a lot of straining to eliminate.

When symptoms of constipation continue for more than two weeks, medical attention is needed. Your doctor can determine what is causing your condition so you can decide on what treatment to go for, based on the options available. The combination of a colon cleanse and a healthy diet has provided tremendous relief to many sufferers.

Observe the frequency of your bowel movements and always make sure your colon and intestinal tract are clean. It's not recommended to take products that contain aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, milk of magnesia, mineral oil and those that have a high fat content. For fiber, your daily dietary requirement is 15 grams a day.

In summary, to keep your bowel movements regular: drink lots of water, eat a diet high in fiber, exercise, and use a safe and natural colon cleanser. - 15343

The Bumpy Road of the Zimmer Durom Cup Hip Implant

By Maxwell Schmickman

In 2006 Zimmer Holdings, the world's largest manufacturer of orthopedic devices, introduced the Zimmer Durom Cup Hip Implant in the United States. Since that time, thousands of implants have been surgically inserted into American patients. The device had been used successfully in Europe since 2003 before being tried in the U.S. Unfortunately, its road to success has been far bumpier in the U.S. than it has been in Europe, and U.S. sales have been put on hold.

Physicians have made claims that the Zimmer Cup is defective, a fact that they say has led to hundreds of patients who are now facing replacement surgery within the next few years. Zimmer, however, holds that there is nothing wrong with their implant. Instead, they claim the problem lies in the methods surgeons have been using to do the implants. They say that the surgeons did not receive the training they needed prior to doing implant surgeries, and therefore, the implants have failed. Although Zimmer has not accepted responsibility for the problem, it did voluntarily suspend sales of the device in the United States until such time as surgeons can receive the training they need to perform successful implants.

Patients who suffer ill effects from surgical implants are protected by laws in most U.S. states which say they are entitled to compensation for the pain they endured, all of the extra medical bills they incurred, and the wages they have lost and stand to lose in the future. Under these laws, patients can be compensated if the orthopedic device used in the surgery can be proven to be at fault. With this in mind, hundreds of patients have now filed lawsuits against Zimmer as well as the surgeons who performed the operations. Both sides are still blaming the other, and the court battles are still raging.

Hip replacement surgeries aren't a new idea. In fact, as early as 1891 there is written reference to attempts to replace the femoral head using ivory devices. It wasn't until 1960, however, that the Burmese surgeon, Dr. San Baw, started replacing broken hip bones with ivory. Within the next 20 years Dr. Baw claimed a success rate of 88% on the more than 300 replacement surgeries that he performed.

During the 1970s a man named John Charnley was a pioneer in the development of a 3-part artificial hip joint. This innovative device, or some adaptation of it, was then used by surgeons for over 20 years. By 2003 Zimmer Holdings had introduced its Durom Cup implant in Europe, and it soon came to be known as the best implant on the market.

While hip replacement surgery and the replacement devices used have improved remarkably from the early years, the operation is still far from foolproof. The most common problem when using a Zimmer Durom Cup implant is that it is somewhat smaller than the original human joint and can slip out of the socket, especially if it isn't implanted correctly. Implants are also prone to loosening over time and infections can set in. In spite of these risks, doctors still recommend the surgery for people with seriously damaged hip joints.

Zimmer Holdings is still working to develop the training that surgeons will need in order to perform Durom Cup implants successfully. They are also attempting to resolve all of the pending lawsuits surrounding the device. The company is adamant in its belief that the Durom Cup implant, when used correctly, will positively impact the lives of those needing hip replacement surgery, and they hope to get it back on the U.S. market soon. - 15343
