Using Sound Therapy For Alternative Medicine Purposes

By Chris Channing

Sound therapy uses different types of sounds to stimulate a specific response in the human body. For instance, we may use a certain sound loop to work towards bettering one's stress levels, increasing mental capacity, or spurring creativity all while they sleep.

Stress levels are the main target in sound therapy. By using the gentle sounds of the ocean, or a breezy day in the forest, we can put the mind into a state of relaxation. When paired with sleeping, this may result in a deeper sleep that may also lead to more memorable dreams. It has been proven among test subjects that those who use sleep therapy also awake with much more energy than they would otherwise.

From stress reduction comes benefit in one's immune system, as separate studies have proven that stress is a natural deterrent to one's immune system. In that sense, it is able to be said that sound therapy devices are able to help keep one healthy physically, just as it is able to keep one's mental state on healthy terms. It may not be a direct form of immune system therapy, but it helps nonetheless.

A baby learns new words and how to talk in general based on what he or she hears. Some say that if we expose babies to more sound, then they are more likely to develop more quickly. Some special sound therapy devices may be obtained that are already inside something baby-friendly such as a stuffed toy. By allowing the baby to sleep with the toy, and benefit from sound therapy, the baby is likely to develop speech faster.

Sometimes it isn't indirect benefit that is being targeted, but rather immediate benefit. Trying to sleep in a noisy environment or trying to sleep with a case of tinnitus can be tough. Using sound therapy sounds to mask out background noise is the best way to sleep even in environments that would otherwise keep a consumer up for hours. Some even like to use sound therapy to mask out the sound of a snoring wife or husband.

There are many different theories in going about taking advantage of sound therapy. Several different studies and hypotheses exist that dictate which sounds should be used to gain certain types of benefit. Although this acts as a helpful guide, the ultimate choice is up to the purchaser, who will typically have quite a few sound selections to choose from when deciding which sounds harmonize with them more.

Final Thoughts

Sound therapy is quickly taking off into a large industry, giving consumers all around the world the benefits of a better sleep. They are used for so much more than just average sleeping ability, as we have seen in the case of stress and developing the abilities of babies.
