Why Percussive Massage Devices Beat Muscle Therapy

By Chris Channing

When we use the term percussive massage, we are referring to a type of massage that is going to target deep-down tissue as compared to tissue above it. This type of massage can be very relaxing, aid back pain relief, and can prove to have many benefits over a regular massage. Even better, devices can be used to replace a costly masseuse.

When we use a percussive massage, the key goal is to get tissue tender to help promote circulation and more elastic tissue. There are several percussive techniques that massage therapists use, such as the pummel or pinch methods. Not all percussive massage techniques are exactly relaxing, but even with techniques named "pinch" the overall process is very enjoyable.

Professional massage therapists were required in the past if the recipient of the massage was to expect a relaxing and beneficial massage. Today we have truly remarkable devices that are able to do complex massage techniques, but with the finesse of a therapist that has the recipient's comfort in mind. In some cases the device may need to be operated by a second person, who will also make sure that the massage is as enjoyable as possible. Common brands to look out for may be the Thumper line, which sells particularly well.

There are two basic models of percussive massagers: portable models that are light enough to use with one hand, and heavier models that are meant to be piloted with an assistance. The latter option tends to be more expensive, but it will have more features in terms of massaging techniques and sheer power. A portable model may weigh as little as a few pounds, but can still pack quite a punch.

If you are using the massage for relieving back pain, one recommendation is to use some sort of heating element in order to get the maximum benefit of the device. Check with the owner's manual to see if you can use a lotion that has heating elements in it with the device. Also be on the lookout for a device that may emit heat on its one, acting like a heating pad for the area in which back pain is being exhibited.

Even with the proper equipment obtained in order to receive the right percussive massage, tips may be required in using it effectively. Read through the instructions included in the product- missing vital instructions may result in injury or misuse. A professional massage therapist may also give out some free advice if asked nicely in regards to techniques to follow.

In Conclusion

It's great to have a percussive massage device laying around when you have a certain back pain, or wish to help someone else out in their time of need. If you think that your bills in massage therapist fees is mounting to the cost of a percussive massage device, consider buying one to start saving money. - 15343
