Watch out for Diets that Make Fantastic Claims

By Jeff Arteta

We have seen lots of pre-packaged diets such as Nutrisystem, Atkins and Jenny Craig that have made their mark on the weight loss industry. They are everywhere on the tv and the newspapers and epically on the internet.

We have heard the results they claim - lose 50 lbs in 4 weeks, eat pizza and lose 40 pounds, various 'chocolate' diets. We all know this is impossible, but they are still making the claims and some people get sucked in.

You would have to deprive yourself of food altogether for these fads to work as they claim. An interesting point is, part of the weight may be muscle tissue. The digestive system can consume protein out of your own body!

Diets that are per-packaged can mislead you in many different ways. As an example, Nutrisystem claims an average price per meal, but it is still eating out everyday. I don't need to tell you that this always ends up costing you a fortune.

Nutrisystem advertise a cost per meal of around $3. This rises to $7 a day for the women's program which comes to over $200 per month. An that's the base price! You can add as much as you want for the real cost and the base cost may rise without them telling you.

A lot of these programs charge automatically from your credit card, which can leave you out of pocket when you if yo forget to cancel. You see the ads all the time, but take notice of the fine print. The extravagant claims of losing 40 pounds are for the whole program, and they come with the disclaimer "Results not typical"!

So do not become a victim of these inflated claims as they are probably untrue or taking the example of the extreme cases who managed to lose a lot of weight, but are the exception. Of course it is possible to lose 40 pounds, but in most situations you will most likely lose less than a quarter of that. They do not promise you anything and blame you if the system does not work.

If yo do the math, this equates to $800 for 40 pounds which is a LOT of money. It is better to do the noralt things to lose weight like healthy exercise and eating. A lot of these programs will leave you out of pocket and no weight loss to show for it. These programs are designed for people with a lot of funds available or they will not succeed. There is never a guarantee that you will be one of the few that will succeed. - 15343
