Stretch Marks and What You Can Do For Them

An understanding of what stretch marks are made of and what causes them is necessary before we can begin to analyze how they can be prevented and cured. There is no denying that stretch marks are really small scars. They are tears in the surface of the skin because it has been pulled further than it can endure.

Stretch marks are a risk any time there is an occasion of rapid weight gain or weight loss. Typically it is pregnant women who are affected due to the sudden stretching of the stomach as the baby grows. But this is not the only group that is subject to getting them.

Weightlifters often grow muscle very quickly. As a consequence they tend to get stretch marks as well; usually on their arms and chest. Teens get them during puberty as well when they hit growth spurts.

Instead of trying to get rid of stretch marks after they have formed, a better approach is to try your hardest to avoid getting them to begin with. This can be accomplished by keeping the skin well moisturized during pregnancy. You can also help yourself by eating right and exercising. Try to keep your weight gain as gradual as possible.
